AMD mobile graphics usually has a set allocation for VRAM. in cases where laptops are shipped with 8GB of memory, manufacturers like Lenovo or Dell would preset this to 2GB of dedicated VRAM.
The reason users would want to change that is that Windows automatically allocates system memory to the GPU as needed. However, some games require a minimum amount of dedicated memory before allowing the user to launch the game. Since this modification is easy to reverse, it is still advisable to have more free RAM dedicated to Windows and to set the smallest amount of dedication to the GPU.
For the Lenovo Flex14 2-in-1 (81ss / flex14-api):
- Reboot into the BIOS.
- navigate to the Configuration tab
- Modify “Integrated Graphics controller” from “Auto” to “Forced”
- Set the “UMA Frame buffer size” to 256M
- Exit > exit saving changes
